Ceramic Tile And Versatility

Ceramic tile has been used for years and is often the most preferred choice in home bathrooms, kitchens and other areas. The reasons are pretty obvious. With a professional installation of ceramic tile, the surface will remain highly durable for the long term. It is easy to clean and requires very little maintenance work. It is also very versatile in the number of design options it provides. Unique patterns and inlays are easily purchased and used

You have many options in flooring including natural stones like limestone, marble and travertine. Yet, ceramic tile installation is still the most sought after by both new homeowners and long time homeowners. Because ceramic is so dense and strong, it really does take a beating and keeps giving. It doesn’t absorb harmful chemicals and offers many tile design options including great patterns.

Style choices include antique, rustic, modern and classic. You’ll find options that look like other materials as well such as ceramic tile that looks like marble or looks like wood. Granite, slate, and terracotta are other style choices to choose from. Then, add features it. For example, you can create a mosaic or use glass and metal within the design. Whole, lined, chipped, edge designs and much more are all options you have with ceramic tile.

Ceramic tile also is used in various applications. You can use it for floors, walls, outdoors, indoors, in showers, as your kitchen backsplash and even near your pool. In terms of costs, these are varied. You can find inexpensive low quality tiling for as low as $4 a square foot (though it’s often better to go with a middle of the road cost for quality.) Some are as high as even $14 to $15 a square foot. Always use a professional installer for ceramic tile because the durability and look of the tiling is going to be much better with a professional.

Ceramic Installation: You Do It Or They Do It?

Often, questions are asked about ceramic installation. Should you attempt to do this type of project on your own? Ceramic tile is a great medium to use, and has plenty of applications within a home or business. While some people may do well at installing ceramic tile themselves, the task is one that requires know how and skill. Here are a few things to consider before you start a ceramic installation . . .

Surface: The surface you are placing the ceramic tile on must be as flat as possible. For example, in your bathroom renovation, you may want to place ceramic tiling throughout the shower. If the walls are damaged, uneven, broken or otherwise not level, these repairs must be made before the project moves forward.

Installation: A professional ceramic tile installer will finish the task in a matter of hours. Yet, for the untrained person, it will take longer because installation requires skill. If the tiles are not placed correctly, they’ll be unevenly lined. Patterns can make the job even more difficult. Most important, if there are any air pockets, any mistakes along the way, the tile could easily crack.

Ceramic installation also requires specific tools and equipment. While easy to find, they can be costly investments. The fact is, the amount of money you spend on having a professional do the ceramic installation for you are quickly returned to you by the lack of maintenance and long life of the tiling, when properly put in place. Do take the time to get estimates or take a course to learn how to perfect your skills before you tackle a kitchen renovation or other task.
